Nwave Wireless PGS

LIDL Chooses Nwave Wireless PGS for its new HQ in London

Problem

With upcoming relocation to its new British Headquarters in Tolworth, LIDL GB was looking for a smart parking solution for the new office. With over 1,000 employees working in the office and its main Multi Story Car Park (MSCP) facility limited to 300 spaces, increasing efficiency of the parking facility was paramount. With expectation of MSCP not being able to fill the parking demand, LIDL was also planning to rent up to 80 spaces on the nearby surface lot as an “overflow” location during the periods of high demand. Providing real time and availability and historical usage data for both facilities was seen as critical to both maximize utilization and improve employee experience.

Given the corporate culture of excellence and cost-efficiency, LIDL GB was looking for a smart parking system that would not only provide excellent functionality, but would also be cost-efficient both during the planning and installation phase and during operations.

Solution

After reviewing multiple options, including traditional wired overhead sensor-based and camera-based systems, LIDL GB made a selection in favor of the wireless Nwave PGS system based on its accuracy, ease of installation, analytics functionality and cost efficiency.

The Nwave wireless PGS system deployed at the LIDL house included:

  • Nwave per-space wireless sensors installed in each parking space in the MSCP and the overflow surface lot,
  • Entrance pedestal-style Digital Message Sign (DMS),
  • Full-matrix indoor directional DMSs,
  • Nwave Analytics Dashboard for real-time and historical data analysis.

Complete PGS deployment for 382 spaces took less than one week, instead of weeks and months for a comparable wired PGS system.

In addition to assisting drivers in quickly finding available spaces, a key feature of the deployed system is Nwave dashboard analytics platform that allows to both see real time and historical data at high granularity (for different levels, for different space types, for different facilities).

Analysis of the historical data quickly demonstrated a very high average utilization level of the MSCP, with most popular floors reaching nearly 100% utilization most of the times. Accuracy provided by Nwave PGS proved instrumental to achieve these high utilization levels on a regular basis.

With several months of data accumulated, looking at utlilization levels between MSCP and overflow lot and at average utilization levels of different floors at the MSCP, LIDL staff with support by Nwave specialists, identified that, while some levels of the MSCP were occupied nearly completely on a regular basis, others were not fully utilized. This allowed LIDL to make a decision to reduce the rent of  the overflow spaces in favor of increasing utilization of the under-used floors at the MSCP. This decision alone saved LIDL thousands GBP per month – demonstrating a quick financial return and and efficiency gains in terms of employee time and experience generated by Nwave PGS.
